Kempe Quarterly 7

I read with great interest my friend Bob Kempe's latest submission. I thoroughly enjoyed his ideas and I hope you will, as well. Please feel free to weigh in with your thoughts.

THERE WAS AND IS THE IRAQ WAR.

WE INVADED IRAQ AND KILLED A LOT OF PEOPLE.
WE BORROWED MONEY TO PAY FOR IT.
IT WAS ADVOCATED ON THE LIE THAT IRAQ THREATENED US WITH WEAPONS
OF MASS DESTRUCTION.

NOW WE HAVE A PROPOSAL FOR HEALTH CARE.

ITS AIM IS TO CURE MORE SICK AMERICANS.
WE MUST BORROW TO PAY FOR IT, AT LEAST AT FIRST.
THERE IS ROOM TO IMPROVE AMERICANS' HEALTH AND SURVIVAL.

SOME HEALTH CARE FACTS

LIFE EXPECTANCY IN THE U.S.A.IS LOWER THAN IN CANADA, ALL THE OTHER ENGLISH
SPEAKINGS, SWEDEN, FINLAND, FRANCE, JAPAN, SPAIN AND GERMANY.
INFANT MORTALITY RATE IN THE U.S.A. EXCEEDS THAT IN ALL THOSE COUNTRIES.
THIS HEALTH CARE PLAN MAY WELL HAVE ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT.

THOSE WHO DON'T LIKE IT HAVE AT LEAST 3 WAYS TO RESPOND.

1. PROPOSE A BETTER ONE.
2. SPECIFY WHAT WE NOW DO IS GOOD ENOUGH.
3. RESPOND WITH NAME CALLING & PEJORATIVE METAPHORS.

RUSH LIMBAUGH, MITCH MCCONNEL, JOHN BOEHNER, & CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER:
FAVORED AND APPLAUDED THE IRAQ WAR.OPPOSE THE HEALTH CARE CHANGE WITH NAME CALLING & PEJORATIVE LANGUAGE.
OK TO BORROW TO KILL BUT NOT TO CURE.

ONE OF THE MOST INEPT ADMINISTRATIONS YET, HANDED OBAMA THESE PROBLEMS:
RECORD DEFICITS - RECORD DEBT - INCREASED SPENDING - CUT TAXES.
REDUCED AND/OR SOFTENED REGULATION OF FINANCIAL BUSINESSES.

SO: AIG, MERRILL-LYNCH, MADOFF, BEAR-STEARNS, LEHMAN.
BIG BONUS & SEVERANCE MILLIONS TO THE GUYS WHO TOOK THEM DOWN.
TARP, BAILOUTS/HANDOUTS IN THE BILLIONS TO THOSE & OTHER COMPANIES.
STOCK IN BANK OF AMERICA - TO BUY MERRILL-LYNCH: STOCK IN AIG.

A SAD, SAD LEGACY - REALLY SAD.

RUSH LIMBAUGH STATED SPECIFICALLY HE HOPES OBAMA FAILS. IS THAT WHY HE
OPPOSES OBAMA'S PLANS? MCCONNELL & BOEHNER IN SYNC WITH RUSH?
OR IS IT BECAUSE WE BLEW OUR WAD ON IRAQ & THE TARPS & IT'S ALL GONE?

I SINCERELY BELIEVE WE HAVE THE RESOURCES AND CAPABILITY TO GIVE EACH
US CITIZEN REASONABLE HEALTH CARE.

Recently, I returned from a large family wedding out East. As in many families, we aren't all of the same political persuasion, but I grew up respecting other people's opinions. Knowing I'm very political and have worked endless hours to bring about political reform due to our broken health care system, a few of my lawyer cousins attempted to lure me into a dialog on health care. Of course they succeeded! My advice to advocates for change is to become very educated on this topic. Most people really don't know the "real" facts, but they do want a change.

One of the statements I like best is, "I rarely hear people complain about being on Medicare. Rather I hear people say they can't wait to get on it."

Over forty years ago...I lived in France and fortunately, when my family got sick, we had the best health care system in the world. It is immoral to me that We, in this country (the only one of the sixteen industrialized nations of the world) have failed to provide adequate and affordable health care to all who live here.

After, a bit more dialog with my cousins, one turned to me and said, "Personally, I may support you on Single Payer. I'm really not that well informed on this topic."

As I write, thousands are losing their health care coverage, while others can't obtain it. Still premiums continue to rise at an alarming pace.
Please, become more informed and pressure your legislatures to support a government plan that provides Medicare for All.

Sincerely,
